ESL students enjoy a variety of program-sponsored social activities. Activities have included picnics, bowling, Karaoke parties, pizza lunches, barbecue lunch with a Texas cowboy, IMAX movies, ice cream socials, and trips to museums, the famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the circus.
Summer Session Activities:
Trip to the Circus
A favorite for all ages and backgrounds, students often attend “The Greatest Show on Earth” with their entire families. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus comes to Houston every July, and the ESL program hasn't missed a show in over 15 years. From lions and tigers to clowns and trapeze artists, The Ringling Bros. show offers traditional circus fun!
Summer Party
Every summer, students enjoy meeting with teachers and friends at the annual summer party. Located on the patio at the School of Continuing Studies, the party gives the students the opportunity to practice their English skills and chow down on ice cream. Food, refreshments and music are all part of the fun in the summer sun!
Spring Session Activities:
Spring Picnic
An ESL program favorite, the Spring picnic offers an afternoon of interactive fun. Whether students opt for sports, fun in the sun, or quiet conversation with classmates and teachers, everyone involved has the opportunity to unwind after studying and try some great food! Typical menu includes authentic picnic grub: hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and coleslaw.
IMAX/Museum of Natural Science
Enjoy an adventurous visit to the Museum of Natural Science with your classmates and teachers. Located in the historical museum district of Houston, the Museum of Natural Science offers innovative displays and activities, including the notorious IMAX theatre. Students will be offered tickets for general admission and the IMAX at a discounted rate through the office.
