A stormy day in Houston provides the perfect chance to have some fun indoors, and the city’s many museums are wonderful ways to do just that. Last Thursday, a large group of our Intensive English students made the short journey over to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to spend an afternoon immersed in sculptures, paintings, and more!
The afternoon began right after classes concluded for the day, as students met up in the museum’s eatery, Cafe Leonelli, for a light bite to eat. Over lunch, students had a chance to practice their English outside of the classroom, an opportunity they always cherish.

After lunch, students walked around the extensive halls of the museum, including the most recent addition - the Nancy & Rich Kinder Building. Completed in 2020, this building houses the museum’s collection of international and contemporary art.
The MFAH is currently housing a special exhibit which the Intensive English students were able to view. Featuring over 90 works (such as Young Girl in Green) by Tamara de Lempicka, the exhibit showcases Lempicka’s life and achievements in the Art Deco movement.

Later in the afternoon, students looked around at other exhibits in the museum, with a particular focus on the international art and special collections.
As it was one of the museum’s usual “Free Thursdays,” students could spend the rest of their day exploring the vast collections at the MFAH. The museum has a truly world-renowned collection, and our Intensive English students marveled at the beautiful works of art to cap off a wonderful afternoon.

The first summer session ends this week, but another is just around the corner! There is so much more to enjoy for our new and returning Intensive English students in the next summer session.
